Canon UK & Ireland, world leader in digital imaging technology, today announced the appointment of David Lucioni as its Environment & Product Safety Manager.

Lucioni started his career in the Metropolitan Police Force as a PC and has since built up over 15 years’ experience in the private sector, including holding the position of Environment Coordinator at both The Cheese Company and Heinz Frozen & Chilled Foods in Devon. He holds a BSc. (Hons) degree in Environment Science as well as Diplomas in Pollution Control and Environmental Policy.
Lucioni will now be responsible for representing Canon UK & Ireland on pan-European environmental, quality and product safety issues, along with local strategies, legal compliance and environmental legislation (such as the WEEE Directive and ISO14001 standards). His role is crucial in fulfilling the company’s long–standing corporate philosophy of Kyosei – which literally translated means, living and working together for the common good.

Canon has always been committed to continuous improvement of its environmental achievements and endeavours to take a full lifecycle approach to recycling, from the initial concept through to disposal and recycling. This was recently shown by the launch of Canon’s ‘Green’ series of calculators, which are produced using recycled materials from Canon copiers.

David Lucioni says: “Joining Canon was an easy decision to make. It’s a brand that is respected worldwide and is also a leader in its approach to the environment – from its commitment to recycling through to its partnership with WWF, the global conservation organisation. Environmental issues and legislation can be complicated and diverse but Canon has always had the right ethics and approach to tackle environmental concerns head on and I am committed to ensuring this continues in the future.”

Andy Vickers, Managing Director, Canon UK & Ireland commented: “We are delighted to welcome David into our organisation. His environmental credentials are second to none and we are confident that he can help with the ongoing education within the organisation to communicate the importance of our environmental activities and their benefits beyond simple legal compliance. The message to our customers is that being environmentally aware can actually benefit not only the organisation but also its bottom line and David will be instrumental in ensuring that we continue to practice what we preach.”
